With the monsoon season approaching, major stormwater drain works near Manyata Tech Park in north Bengaluru are nearing completion, offering hope of relief from the area’s long-standing flooding problems.
The project is expected to reduce repeated waterlogging that has disrupted roads, traffic movement and parts of the technology park during heavy rains in previous years.
Deadline set before monsoon
The North City Corporation had reportedly fixed a deadline for the works to be completed before the arrival of monsoon rains.
The decision came after several complaints and recurring incidents where flooded roads caused inconvenience to office-goers, residents and commuters in the surrounding region.
Manyata Tech Park is one of Bengaluru’s largest business hubs, hosting thousands of employees and major companies. Flooding in the zone has often drawn widespread attention.
KIADB eases restrictions
Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board, which had earlier withheld certain building approvals until the drainage issue was addressed, has now eased those restrictions.
Officials said the flooding situation is now largely under control due to progress made in the drainage upgrade works.
Relief for tech corridor expected
The completion of the stormwater system is expected to improve road conditions, protect nearby properties and ensure smoother traffic flow during peak monsoon spells.
The Manyata corridor is a key employment zone in north Bengaluru and often sees heavy daily traffic. Even short periods of flooding can cause major delays.
Focus shifts to monsoon readiness
As pre-monsoon showers begin across Bengaluru, civic agencies are under pressure to complete desilting, road repair and drainage works in vulnerable locations.
Residents and employees will now hope the Manyata project becomes a lasting solution rather than another temporary fix
