Bengaluru commuters endured massive gridlock on Outer Ring Road (ORR) after the HSR Layout flyover was shut for BMRCL metro construction on Tuesday morning. The closure, affecting the stretch between Silk Board and Iblur, triggered severe congestion during peak hours, with officials warning of similar bottlenecks in the evening.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) issued an advisory on X (formerly Twitter), urging Marathahalli-Iblur-Silk Board commuters to use alternate routes. Motorists were advised to detour via 19th Main, 17th Cross HSR, and 5th Main to reach Silk Board, or take 6th Main through MCHS Colony towards Hosur Road.
Despite these diversions, the ORR—already notorious for heavy traffic—struggled to handle the load. Frustrated commuters criticized the authorities for scheduling major infrastructure work on weekdays instead of weekends.
The ORR is a lifeline for tech professionals traveling between Marathahalli, Bellandur, and Electronic City, making this closure a nightmare for thousands. With no clear completion timeline, commuters are bracing for longer travel times in the coming weeks.
