Bengaluru — Suddaguntepalya police are still on the lookout for a man who sexually assaulted a woman walking with her friend in the early hours of April 3. The two women were returning to their paying guest accommodation after a late-night tea outing when the disturbing incident took place.
As per police reports, the women had stepped out at 12:50 am to grab tea from a stall on Suddaguntepalya Main Road. A man lurking near the shop allegedly began following them when they left around 1:52 am. By the time they reached I Cross, Bharathi Layout — about 500 meters from a private university — he allegedly attacked one of them.
Shockingly, the victim did not report the incident. Instead, the case came to light only after a local businessman, Lokesh Gowda, shared CCTV footage online showing the horrifying act. The clip, timestamped 1:52 am, clearly shows the man forcing one woman against a wall before running away.
The victims were reportedly in Bengaluru to pursue postgraduate admissions at a nearby college.
Reacting swiftly after the footage went viral, city police registered a suo motu case for stalking and sexual harassment. “We are analysing extensive CCTV footage and conducting round-the-clock beat patrols,” said Police Commissioner B Dayananda. He added that night patrolling efficiency is also being evaluated using tech-based methods.
The police are now trying to trace the women involved, even as the search continues for the molester caught on camera.
