A disturbing case has emerged from Tavarekere village in Davanagere district, Karnataka, where a 38-year-old woman, Shabina Banu, was violently attacked by a group of men near a mosque. The assault reportedly followed a domestic disagreement involving her husband. The entire incident was captured on video and shared online, sparking public outrage.

According to Shabina, she, her cousin Nasreen (32), and a man named Fayaz were called to the Jama Masjid in Channagiri taluk after her husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer, raised a complaint. The situation escalated quickly outside the mosque, where multiple men allegedly assaulted Shabina using rods, sticks, and blunt objects. They even attempted to hurl stones at her, with apparent intent to cause serious harm.

In her statement, Shabina—who earns a living as a domestic worker—explained that on April 7, her cousin had visited her home. The two, along with Shabina’s children, had gone on an outing to a nearby hill. Upon returning, Shabina took her prescribed medication and went to lie down. Although Nasreen initially intended to leave, she stayed over. Meanwhile, Fayaz also dropped by.

Later, her husband came home and was angered by their presence. He then approached the local mosque authorities with a complaint. The next day, Shabina and the others were summoned—an encounter that turned violent.

Following the video’s circulation, six individuals named in the complaint—Mohammad Niyaz, Mohammad Gauspeer, Chand Basha, Inayat Ullah, Dastagir, and Rasool—were arrested. A special investigation team has been formed, and inquiries continue.
