Following days of intense rainfall, Karnataka is poised for a brief monsoon lull starting May 31, with a significant decline in precipitation across the state, particularly in Bengaluru and southern interior regions.

Dr. N Puviarasan, Head of the Meteorological Centre in Bengaluru, confirmed that while the southwest monsoon has fully spread across Karnataka, rainfall will reduce considerably for about 6 to 7 days. Coastal areas will also see diminished intensity, though light to moderate rain may continue sporadically.

Districts like Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, and Chamarajanagar are forecasted to have moderate, scattered showers, tapering off into June.

In Bengaluru, residents can expect cloudy skies, mild rainfall, and winds gusting up to 50 kmph. Daytime temperatures will hover around 29°C, with nighttime lows near 21°C.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah highlighted the state’s disaster readiness, noting that 170 taluks are flood- and landslide-prone. To mitigate impact, 2,296 relief shelters have been designated.

Within BBMP limits, 201 zones are marked as flood-sensitive. Since May 26, 2025, 45 homes have been completely destroyed, and 1,385 have sustained partial damage. The CM stated that 99% of financial aid has already been distributed.

A total of Rs 973.51 crore in disaster management funds are currently accessible through district and taluk-level accounts, ensuring swift response during any emergencies.
