A woman died in a tragic road accident near Marathahalli on Saturday morning while taking her daughter to college, bringing renewed attention to the dangers posed by pothole-ridden roads in Bengaluru during the monsoon.
Kantha was riding a two-wheeler with her daughter Neha when she encountered a pothole concealed by rainwater left behind after Friday night’s heavy rain. According to police, she lost control of the vehicle while trying to navigate the flooded stretch and fell onto the road.
Moments later, a school bus travelling behind ran over her. Local residents rushed to help and attempted to take her to hospital, but she died on the spot.
The incident unfolded in front of her daughter, who was left in deep shock after witnessing the tragedy.
Fresh concerns over dangerous roads
The accident has once again raised concerns about the condition of Bengaluru’s roads. Residents and motorists have frequently complained about potholes becoming hidden hazards during the rainy season.
Many citizens expressed anger, alleging that poor maintenance and delayed repairs continue to put lives at risk. The Whitefield Traffic Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Three more killed in separate accidents
In separate incidents on Mysuru Road, three people lost their lives between late Friday night and Saturday morning.
Atul and Gowrishankar, nursing students from Kerala, died after their two-wheeler crashed into a road divider near R R Dental College in Kengeri around 2 am.
In another accident near Kengeri, a car rammed two two-wheelers from behind. Sukhdev (45), a passenger in the car, died, while three others sustained serious injuries.
Police have registered separate cases and are investigating the incidents.
