In a troubling development, MSGP Infratech, responsible for scientifically managing Bengaluru’s mixed waste and compost production, is accused of regulatory violations. Reports indicate that over 50% of the city’s waste, intended for scientific processing, was improperly buried. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Cleanliness and Lorry Owners and Contractors Association has formally requested an investigation into MSGP Infratech’s practices.

The association’s General Secretary, S.N. Balasubramaniam, has lodged a complaint with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, alleging that MSGP Infratech, which received over 11.05 lakh metric tonnes of waste from BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike), has violated environmental regulations. A case (150/2021) has been filed against the company at Belavangal Police Station for environmental pollution.

Concerns also extend to environmental contamination from liquid waste affecting nearby villages’ groundwater and agricultural activities. Despite these serious allegations, K.P. Praveen, Managing Director of MSGP Infratech, denies any wrongdoing and has invited authorities to investigate their operations.

The allegations highlight the urgent need for rigorous scrutiny of waste management practices in Bengaluru and adherence to environmental regulations.
