Bengaluru is set to receive its fourth trainset for Namma Metro’s long-awaited Yellow Line by early August, with regular monthly deliveries to follow from September, officials confirmed. West Bengal-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), the manufacturer, will supply all 15 trains for the RV Road–Bommasandra corridor by March 2026.
Currently stalled due to a shortage of trains, the Yellow Line will finally begin operations with three trainsets running at 25-minute intervals, targeting early August for commissioning. TRSL has already delivered two trains using carbodies imported from China and is manufacturing three more, including the fourth set—the first fully made-in-India unit.
TRSL, which partnered with China’s CRRC Nanjing Puzhen in 2022, faced initial delays due to visa issues for Chinese engineers and supply chain disruptions. However, Deputy MD Pritish Choudhary stated that production has now stabilized, and the company is capable of delivering two trainsets every month. Over 50 CRRC engineers are assisting operations at TRSL’s Kolkata plant.
The fourth trainset is in the final outfitting phase and will be dispatched by late July. After testing, it is expected to be operational by late August or early September.
TRSL is also producing 20 trains for the Purple and Green lines, due by October 2026. BMRCL officials acknowledged initial quality issues in carbody fabrication but noted significant improvement in material flow and production standards.
