A Bengaluru man exposed a taxi scam at Bengaluru airport involving a fake Uber app. Sharing his experience on X, user “mister_whistler” revealed that the drivers use an app called Blumeter, designed to mimic Uber, to overcharge passengers. He wrote, “This guy showed me an exact replica of @Uber app, added ₹1000 extra, citing GST. When I asked for a bill, he said I’d get it next month—without even taking my email!”
The scam involves drivers starting and ending trips on Blumeter, which displays inflated fares. When asked for a bill, passengers are told the billing system is “broken” or offered blank slips to fill in the amount themselves.
The post, which has garnered 3.5K likes and over 400K views, sparked outrage among users. One user humorously commented, “Bill next month? They believe in long-term customer relationships.” Others shared similar experiences, with one noting a rapid fare increase on the fake app.
Many urged authorities to address this issue and suggested alternatives like using KIA AC buses to avoid falling victim.
The incident highlights the need for vigilance and stricter regulation to curb fraudulent practices.
