A tragic road accident claimed the lives of a young couple after a gas tanker allegedly suffered a brake failure and crashed into their motorcycle near Goraguntepalya Junction in Bengaluru on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Shabraj, 28, and his wife Shabreen, 24, residents of Nagarabhavi. The couple was travelling towards Yeshwanthpur on a KTM Duke motorcycle when the fatal accident occurred.

Tanker loses control near signal

According to police, the LPG gas tanker reportedly lost control after its brakes failed near the busy junction. The heavy vehicle allegedly rammed into the motorcycle from behind, throwing the couple onto the road.

In a horrifying turn of events, the rear wheels of the tanker ran over both victims, causing severe injuries.

Passersby and motorists rushed to help, but the couple succumbed to their injuries at the scene due to excessive blood loss.

Motorcycle crushed in impact

The force of the collision completely damaged the motorcycle, leaving debris scattered across the road. Yeshwanthpur Traffic Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and shifted the bodies to MS Ramaiah Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident.

Traffic disrupted for hours

The accident triggered heavy traffic congestion on Tumakuru Road and adjoining areas during peak hours. Commuters were stranded for a considerable period as emergency teams worked to clear the road.

Authorities later used a crane to remove the damaged vehicles and restore the flow of traffic.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over heavy vehicle safety and the need for regular maintenance checks to prevent such tragedies.
