A 28-year-old technician died after allegedly suffering an electric shock while carrying out maintenance work on an 11 kV power line near SBI Junction in Electronics City Phase-I.
Following the incident, the Electronic City Police have registered a case against the contractor, company officials and personnel of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) for alleged negligence.
Technician electrocuted during maintenance work
The deceased has been identified as Bandaru Esudasu, a native of Andhra Pradesh. According to police, he had arrived in Bengaluru about a week ago and was employed by a private company engaged in the maintenance of Bescom’s power infrastructure.
The incident occurred on Saturday while Esudasu was reportedly working on an 11 kV power line in Electronics City Phase-I.
He allegedly suffered a severe electric shock during the maintenance operation and succumbed to his injuries.
Negligence case registered
Based on a complaint and preliminary findings, police have booked the contractor, officials of the private company and Bescom personnel for alleged negligence.
Investigators are examining whether proper safety protocols were followed before the maintenance work began and whether the power supply had been adequately isolated.
Probe into safety lapses
Authorities are also looking into the working conditions under which the technician was deployed and whether mandatory protective equipment and safety procedures were in place.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of workers engaged in high-voltage electrical maintenance and infrastructure projects.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine responsibility and identify any violations of workplace safety norms.
Growing concern over worker safety
Workplace accidents involving electrical infrastructure continue to highlight the need for stricter enforcement of safety standards and regular monitoring of maintenance activities.
Officials are expected to seek reports from both the contractor and Bescom as part of the ongoing investigation.
