A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Bengaluru has sentenced Mohammed Faizan, one of the accused in the Al-Hind ISIS terror conspiracy case, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to charges related to supporting the banned terrorist organisation Islamic State (ISIS).

The court also imposed a fine on the accused after finding him guilty under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Accused admitted role in ISIS conspiracy

According to the NIA, Mohammed Faizan was part of the Al-Hind ISIS module, which was allegedly involved in radicalising and recruiting vulnerable youth for terrorist activities. The investigation revealed that the group had pledged allegiance to ISIS and was conspiring to carry out violent acts to further the organisation’s extremist ideology.

The accused reportedly admitted his involvement before the Special NIA Court, following which the court convicted him and sentenced him to seven years in prison.

Case uncovered during NIA investigation

The case was initially registered after intelligence agencies uncovered a conspiracy involving members of the Al-Hind ISIS module operating from Bengaluru. Investigators alleged that the accused were using encrypted communication platforms and social media to spread extremist propaganda, recruit members and plan activities linked to ISIS.

The NIA stated that the investigation exposed efforts by the group to promote radicalisation and encourage terrorist activities in India.

NIA reiterates commitment to counter-terror efforts

The agency said the conviction reflects its continued efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prosecute individuals involved in activities that threaten national security.

Officials added that investigations in related cases continue, with the NIA closely monitoring attempts by extremist organisations to radicalise youth through online platforms.

The conviction is part of the agency’s broader campaign to curb terror-related activities and strengthen India’s counter-terrorism framework through coordinated investigations and prosecutions.
