A Bengaluru-based finance professional has sparked a fresh debate on the city’s infrastructure after sharing videos of severe traffic congestion following rainfall earlier this week.

Pranjal Sharma posted footage on social media platform X showing bumper-to-bumper traffic on a heavily congested road, highlighting how a spell of rain brought traffic movement to a near standstill in several parts of the city.

‘Even an ambulance won’t move’

Sharing the videos, Sharma criticised Bengaluru’s infrastructure challenges, writing: “In this traffic, even an ambulance won’t move. This is where the top talent of the country works. Wow. A single rain makes the city come to its knees. God bless us.”

The post quickly gained traction online, drawing thousands of views and reactions from residents who shared similar experiences of being stuck in traffic during the rain.

Rain triggers traffic chaos

Heavy showers on Tuesday led to waterlogging in several areas of Bengaluru, including stretches of the Outer Ring Road, one of the city’s busiest IT corridors.

Commuters reported long delays as flooded roads slowed traffic during peak office hours. The recurring combination of rain, waterlogging and traffic congestion has become a familiar concern for residents, particularly during the monsoon season.

Social media debate erupts

While many users agreed that Bengaluru’s infrastructure has struggled to keep pace with the city’s rapid growth, others pointed to increasing population pressure and traffic rule violations as contributing factors.

Some social media users argued that the city’s growing migrant population has placed additional strain on infrastructure, while others countered that Bengaluru’s success as India’s technology hub naturally attracts talent from across the country.

The discussion once again highlighted the broader challenges facing Bengaluru as it balances economic growth with the need for improved roads, drainage systems and public transport infrastructure.
