More than half of Bengaluru‘s ongoing white-topping and road infrastructure works have been completed, with projects worth ₹1,700 crore currently under execution across the city, according to GBA Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.
During a review meeting with officials on Monday, Rao assessed the progress of major road development projects and directed departments to accelerate pending works to ensure timely completion.
White-topping works cross 50 per cent mark
According to the Chief Commissioner, white-topping projects covering 58.60 km of roads were taken up at a cost of ₹800 crore. Of this, 28.18 km has been completed, representing 56.1 per cent progress.
In a separate phase, white-topping works spanning 66.28 km were undertaken at a cost of ₹900 crore. Officials reported that 26.40 km has been completed so far, achieving 46.43 per cent progress.
Taken together, the city has completed around 51 per cent of the total white-topping works under the ₹1,700 crore programme.
Road widening must come first
Rao instructed officials to ensure that road widening works are completed before beginning white-topping on key corridors, including Nagawara Road, Tannery Road, Dinnur Road and Holiday Village Road.
He stressed that permanent road surfacing should only commence after widening activities are fully executed to avoid future disruptions and additional expenditure.
The directive aims to improve project planning and ensure smoother implementation of major road upgrades.
Focus on buffer roads
Apart from white-topping projects, the GBA is also developing nine buffer roads with a combined length of 68 km within Bengaluru.
The Chief Commissioner directed officials to speed up work on these roads and ensure they are completed within the stipulated timelines.
The ongoing infrastructure projects form part of broader efforts to improve road quality, traffic flow and connectivity across Bengaluru, where rapid urban growth continues to place pressure on existing transport infrastructure. #Bengaluru #Infrastructure #RoadDevelopment #WhiteTopping #GBA #NewsKarnataka
