A dispute has surfaced at an apartment complex in Jayamahal after the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) warned residents of a possible power cut over relocated transformers inside the premises.
The issue concerns Neeladri Mahal apartment complex, where two electrical transformers were shifted in October last year to an area earlier used as a children’s play space.
Flat owner Tasleem Jeelani objected to the relocation and filed a complaint with the electrical inspectorate, alleging the move was carried out without consent from homeowners.
Jeelani said residents were earlier assured that a compact transformer unit would be installed, but claimed the final setup raised safety concerns. According to the complaint, sparks were reportedly noticed during rains, causing anxiety among residents.
Safety clearance under scanner
Following the complaint, the deputy chief electrical inspector for Bengaluru Additional East Zone inspected the site on February 16. In a subsequent letter to Bescom officials, the inspector reportedly stated that mandatory safety clearance had not been obtained for shifting the transformers.
The notice sought an explanation within seven days and cited provisions under the Central Electricity Authority Regulations, 2023.
Internal communication within Bescom during February and March reportedly showed that the matter was escalated through multiple levels of the department.
Bescom issues fresh warning
In its latest communication dated April 8, Bescom warned the apartment association that electricity supply could be disconnected if required clearance was not secured within 15 days or if steps were not taken to move the transformers back.
Bescom officials said obtaining approval was the responsibility of the apartment association and the licensed contractor who carried out the work.
Residents seek clarity
The development has left residents concerned over both safety and continuity of power supply. Many now hope for a quick resolution that protects children’s space, ensures compliance, and avoids inconvenience to families
