A bitter family property dispute in Jayanagar allegedly turned violent after a woman and her family attempted to set her brother’s house on fire in the Bhyrasandra locality.

Police said the incident could have ended in tragedy, but timely intervention prevented serious damage and possible injuries.

Fight over property share

According to police, the dispute arose over the division of family property.

The complainant, Umesh, alleged that his sister Meenakshi, along with her husband and children, came to his residence and confronted him.

The group allegedly tried to force entry into the house while carrying machetes and clubs.

CCTV cameras damaged

Police said the accused also vandalised doors and windows and damaged CCTV cameras, allegedly in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The incident created panic in the neighbourhood as tensions escalated rapidly.

Petrol poured on house

Investigators said the situation worsened when the group allegedly poured petrol around the house and attempted to set it on fire.

At the time, Umesh’s wife Ashwini and other family members were inside the house.

Officials said the quick response helped prevent a major fire accident.

Emergency call saves family

During the chaos, Ashwini reportedly dialled the 112 emergency helpline seeking urgent assistance.

Police teams rushed to the scene, brought the situation under control and prevented further violence.

She later filed a formal complaint at Siddapura Police Station seeking strict action.

Case registered

Police have registered a case and begun investigation into the incident.

The shocking episode has once again highlighted how unresolved family property disputes can spiral into dangerous violence.
