Former Congress MP and actress Ramya (Divya Spandana) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel the bail granted to actor Darshan in the sensational Renukaswamy murder case. Speaking to the media on Monday, she said the verdict reaffirmed that everyone is equal before the law.
Ramya emphasized that the public had also felt the Karnataka High Court’s decision to release Darshan on bail was not appropriate. “I truly appreciate the Supreme Court’s judgement. The earlier order did not seem right, and this decision restores people’s faith in justice,” she remarked.
The apex court’s ruling came from a bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, which overturned the Karnataka High Court’s order granting bail to Darshan and actress Pavithra Gowda. The duo was immediately taken into custody following the verdict.
On August 14, Ramya had also expressed her views on Instagram, writing: “The SC judgment today on setting aside bail to Darshan and others in the Renukaswamy murder case sends out a strong message — all are equal before the law.”
The case stems from the alleged abduction and torture of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan, who was held captive in a Bengaluru shed for three days in June last year before being found dead. Reports suggest he had sent obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, which allegedly triggered the crime.
Ramya concluded that the verdict not only strengthens the rule of law but also assures the public that justice will prevail.
