Bengaluru: A social media post about the earnings of a Rapido bike taxi rider in Bengaluru has gone viral, sparking widespread discussion on the income potential of gig workers in the city.
The post, shared by X user Lalith (@lalitgrateful), described a conversation with a Rapido rider while travelling to a friend’s house.
Rider claims to earn ₹2,000 a day
According to the post, the rider said he works seven to eight hours a day and earns approximately ₹2,000 a day in profit. The claim surprised the passenger, who remarked that the amount appeared to be higher than what many experienced professionals earn.
The rider also reportedly claimed that app-based cab drivers in Bengaluru earn between ₹4,000 and ₹5,000 a day in profit, adding that he hopes to purchase a car in the future and transition to cab driving for higher earnings.
