What started as a jubilant celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic IPL win turned tragic outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday evening, as uncontrolled crowds led to injuries and panic.
Thousands of fans swarmed the stadium vicinity to witness the grand felicitation ceremony of the IPL 2025 champions. However, poor crowd management and overcrowding quickly turned the scene into chaos. More than 20 people were reportedly trampled, with five sustaining serious injuries, including two women and two young men. One of the victims remains in critical condition.
Initial reports indicated a few minor injuries, but as the crowd surge intensified, many were caught in a dangerous stampede-like situation. Eyewitnesses blamed the lack of barricading, restricted entry due to a pass-only policy, and insufficient police presence as the reasons the celebration spiraled into a public safety crisis.
Despite prior traffic and gathering advisories issued by Bengaluru Police, fans continued to gather in overwhelming numbers, leading to confusion, pushing, and panic. Authorities and civilians responded swiftly, using auto-rickshaws and police vans to rush injured individuals to nearby hospitals.
Emergency services are continuing to monitor the situation, and officials have promised free medical aid for all those affected. A review of the incident is currently underway, and stricter crowd control protocols are expected in future public gatherings.
