A video showing a rowdy-sheeter celebrating his birthday inside the Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, has gone viral on social media, prompting an internal inquiry by prison authorities. The clip, allegedly filmed by fellow inmates, was circulated on WhatsApp and Instagram, raising serious concerns over mobile phone use within the high-security facility.
According to officials, the video features undertrial prisoner Srinivasa alias Gubbachhi Seena, accused in a murder case, celebrating his birthday with a group of inmates. A cake and an apple garland were arranged for the occasion, and Seena is seen cutting the cake with a large knife while others cheer.
Inquiry ordered
ADGP (Prisons) B Dayananda has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the prison jailer lodged a formal complaint with the Parappana Agrahara police on Saturday, seeking legal action.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the celebration took place around four to five months ago. Police have identified several inmates seen in the video, including Anand, Arun, Praveen, Surya, Mithun, Preeksith, Prajval, Chetan, Aravind, and Karthik.
How the incident came to light
The matter surfaced after the wife of Seena’s murdered rival came across the video on social media statuses shared by Seena’s aides. She reportedly saved the video and submitted it to ADGP Dayananda’s office a week ago, demanding strict action.
Seena, who is accused of killing his rival in January 2025, was arrested in February after being shot in the leg by Sarjapura police during an arrest operation when he allegedly attacked a constable. He has been lodged in the Parappana Agrahara prison since then.
Police investigation underway
The Parappana Agrahara police have registered a case and initiated a probe into how mobile phones entered the prison and who facilitated the illegal celebration. According to prison rules, the use of mobile phones or recording devices inside the jail premises is strictly prohibited.
