Bengaluru police have arrested a 40-year-old salesman, Naresh Sharma from Tamil Nadu, for allegedly cheating a city-based jeweller, officials confirmed on Friday.

Sharma had been employed at the jewellery store for three years. Recently, he informed his employer that he would sell some jewellery across Bengaluru but never returned. When he failed to show up, the jeweller filed a complaint with the Halasuru Gate police on January 12.

Following an investigation, a police team tracked Sharma to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and apprehended him on January 20. He was brought back to Bengaluru on a transit remand and presented in court, which placed him in police custody for 10 days.

During interrogation, Sharma confessed to selling the stolen ornaments in multiple jewellery shops in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Authorities have so far recovered 500 grams of gold jewellery along with ₹5 lakh in cash, amounting to a total value of ₹50 lakh.

On January 30, he was produced before a city court, which remanded him to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing to recover the remaining stolen assets.
