Sukoon Events, a city-based cultural collective, is set to host National Award-winning actor and director Saurabh Shukla’s critically-acclaimed play Barf in Bengaluru this weekend. Known for its gripping narrative, the 90-minute drama blends psychological depth with theatrical finesse.

In Barf, Shukla portrays a doctor visiting scenic Srinagar for a medical conference. During his stay, he is approached by a local shikarawala (boatman), pleading for help to treat his ill child. Reluctantly, the doctor agrees—only to arrive at the boatman’s home and discover not a child, but a lifeless doll, creating a moment of profound emotional disquiet.

“The play explores unsettling philosophical questions—Does truth lead to belief or does belief shape the truth?” shares Varun Gupta, founder of Sukoon Events. He adds that while the setting is in Kashmir’s frigid winter, the story deliberately avoids references to political tensions, focusing instead on human complexity and emotional truths.

Since its debut in 2016, Barf has been performed over 150 times across India. Sunil Palwal and Aanchal Chauhan star alongside Shukla, playing the roles of the boatman and his wife.

Sukoon Events, committed to showcasing thought-provoking, curated theatre experiences, brings this evocative play to the Chowdiah Memorial Hall in Vyalikaval on June 21 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available online.
