Bengaluru: A 12-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a speeding car while crossing a national highway near Kudur in Nelamangala taluk on Thursday morning. The tragic accident has once again raised concerns over road safety for schoolchildren in the region.
Girl was on her way to school
The deceased has been identified as Likhita, a Class 4 student at a government school and a resident of Beerawara village. The accident occurred at around 8.30 am near the Gudemaranahalli flyover on the Nelamangala-Kunigal highway.
According to police, Likhita was walking to school with three of her friends. While the other children managed to cross the road safely, Likhita fell behind. She reportedly became startled by the fast-moving traffic and froze in the middle of the road.
Speeding car hits child
A speeding car struck the young girl before the driver could bring the vehicle to a halt. She sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.
Passersby immediately alerted the Kudur Police, who rushed to the scene and shifted the body for further legal formalities.
Driver taken into custody
Police have seized the car involved in the accident and taken the driver, identified as Prabhu (31), into custody for questioning.
A case has been registered, and officials are investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal crash. They are also examining whether negligence or overspeeding contributed to the incident.
