Chittoor: In a major breakthrough in a synthetic drug trafficking case, the Chittoor Urban Police have arrested a Ugandan national for her alleged involvement in an international drug network. The accused was apprehended in Bengaluru and later produced before a district court in Chittoor, which remanded her to the Central Jail in Nellore on Thursday night.
Arrest follows ₹4 lakh drug seizure
The arrest comes nearly two weeks after police seized 70 grams of synthetic drugs, valued at around ₹4 lakh, near Varigapalle on the outskirts of Chittoor. During the operation, two young men from Vijayawada and Machilipatnam were caught with the contraband near the APSRTC bus stand.
According to the police, sustained interrogation of the two suspects revealed the alleged involvement of the Ugandan woman, prompting investigators to launch a search operation that eventually led to her arrest in Bengaluru.
Police probe international links
Officials said the arrest marks a significant step in uncovering what appears to be an international synthetic drug trafficking network operating across state borders. Investigators are now examining the accused’s role in the procurement and supply of synthetic narcotics and are working to identify other individuals connected to the network.
The police believe further investigation could expose a wider chain of drug distribution and help dismantle the syndicate involved in the illegal trade.
Investigation continues
Authorities are continuing their probe to trace the source of the seized drugs, identify additional suspects and determine the full extent of the trafficking operation. Police have indicated that more arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
The Chittoor Urban Police reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking and urged the public to share information on illegal narcotics activities to help curb the menace.
