Police have arrested a 45-year-old habitual offender accused of targeting children at public gatherings and stealing valuables across Bengaluru.

The accused, identified as Babu alias “Pulsar Babu”, is a native of Channapatna and is reportedly linked to over 19 theft cases across multiple police stations.

Arrest at Palace Grounds

According to police, the accused was caught red-handed while attempting to commit theft at an event held at Palace Grounds on March 7.

Officials said he would attend functions dressed well, blending in with guests to avoid suspicion.

Modus operandi

Investigators revealed that Babu specifically targeted children below 12–13 years of age. He would gain their trust before stealing gold and silver ornaments worn by them.

Police said this method allowed him to operate unnoticed in crowded environments such as marriage halls and convention centres.

Recovery of stolen items

Authorities recovered 132 grams of gold ornaments, seven mobile phones, two laptops, two cars, four two-wheelers, and ₹1.2 lakh in cash from the accused.

The total value of the seized items is estimated at around ₹42 lakh.

Linked to multiple cases

Police confirmed that the accused has confessed to several thefts, including a 2025 incident at a convention hall where a child’s chain and pendant were stolen.

The case had remained unsolved earlier due to non-functional CCTV cameras.

Investigation continues

Police are continuing investigations to identify additional cases linked to the accused and recover more stolen property.

Authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant, especially at crowded events, and ensure children are supervised to prevent such incidents.
