Shantanu Goel has introduced a new Kannada learning tool, initially created for his personal use, now made available to the public. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Goel described the tool as a solution for people eager to learn Kannada but hesitant due to shyness or lack of time. He asked, “Are you a Peak Bengaluru person but still shy away from speaking Kannada?” and encouraged users to try the tool and provide their feedback.

The tool aims to make learning Kannada simple and efficient by offering a new conversational phrase each day. Users can browse through previously shared phrases at their own pace. The app includes high-quality audio pronunciation to help ensure accurate learning, along with an “exam mode” to track progress. Additionally, a weekly email summary helps users retain and practice the phrases learned.

The tool has been met with a positive response on X, with users suggesting improvements like an English-to-Kannada translation feature and a Chrome extension that suggests new words or phrases when opening a new tab. Many users expressed gratitude for the app’s helpfulness, with one calling it a “godsend,” and another highlighting its cultural value by stating, “Learning and speaking a native language helps preserve the language and its culture. This is what we call Indianness.”
