Days of unrelenting rain have thrown Bengaluru into disarray, submerging roads and sparking public outrage. Viral videos reveal the shocking state of affairs—major streets turned into streams, with vehicles struggling to wade through rising water.

Amid the chaos, Dilip Kumar, an investor associated with Zerodha, took to social media to express his frustration. Sharing a clip of a flooded road, he mocked the contrast: “We’ve built AI to diagnose cancer, drones to deliver biryani, and apps to schedule pet meditation—but no clue how to create proper drainage. And this is India’s tech capital.”

Kumar, stuck in traffic himself, questioned the city’s priorities. “Maybe it’s the system, maybe it’s us. Too busy chasing unicorns while the roads drowned beneath our feet,” he remarked. “No number of ESOPs or villas can buy a way out of this civic mess.”

Others online echoed his sentiments. One said, “Startups thrive on urgency. But civic issues? No takers.” Another pointed out that urban planning never gets the attention it deserves: “Drainage systems don’t attract VCs or votes—but they define how we live.”

A more scathing comment read, “We skipped the basics—built towers over lakes and drains. You can’t fix that with code.” Many now question whether Bengaluru’s rapid growth came at the cost of its foundations.
