Bengaluru: The skeletal remains of a 52-year-old woman were found inside a duplex house in the Havanur Layout area of Bagalagunte, Bengaluru, with police suspecting that she may have died nearly a year ago.
The deceased has been identified as Dakshayini. According to preliminary information, she had been living alone and her death apparently went unnoticed for an extended period.
The discovery has prompted the Bagalagunte police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Woman reportedly lived alone
Police suspect Dakshayini may have died around a year ago. Her body is believed to have remained inside the house throughout this period before the skeletal remains were discovered.
Preliminary information suggests that Dakshayini had been living alone following the deaths of her husband and son.
Her husband, Umesh, reportedly died around 10 years ago. Her son subsequently died of cancer, leaving Dakshayini living by herself at the residence.
Police are examining whether her isolation contributed to the delay in discovering her death.
Daughter and son-in-law reportedly did not visit
According to the information available to the police, Dakshayini’s daughter and son-in-law had reportedly not visited the house for about a year.
The absence of regular visits may have contributed to the remains remaining undiscovered for such a long period.
Police are now gathering information from relatives, neighbours and other people who may have been familiar with Dakshayini’s circumstances before her death.
Investigators are also working to establish when she was last seen alive and whether anyone had been in contact with her around that time.
Police inspect house
Following the discovery, personnel from Bagalagunte police station visited the residence and conducted an inspection.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the death.
Since the remains were discovered after a prolonged period, investigators are expected to rely on forensic examination and other evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
The skeletal remains will be subjected to the necessary medical and forensic procedures as part of the investigation.
