Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru’s development, visited Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout on Tuesday to inspect the proposed site for an iconic 250-metre skydeck. Spanning 68 acres in the 7th Block of the layout between Mysuru Road and Magadi Road, this Rs 500-crore project aims to become the tallest skydeck in South Asia.
“This ambitious Brand Bengaluru project will become a symbol of pride for the city,” Shivakumar stated during his visit, which was also attended by MLA ST Somashekhar, BDA Commissioner Manivannan, and other top officials.
The site, strategically located along a major artery of the upcoming Peripheral Ring Road-2, promises excellent connectivity. The DyCM is expected to determine whether BBMP or BDA will oversee construction.
Once completed, the tower will soar over three times the height of Delhi’s Qutub Minar, offering a sweeping 360-degree view of Bengaluru’s evolving skyline. Officials say it will become a premier tourist and civic attraction.
In addition, the government plans to host this year’s Kempe Gowda Jayanti at the same location. The foundation stone for the Kempe Gowda Development Authority will be laid on June 27, with a dedicated museum also planned on adjacent land.
Shivakumar noted that local leaders have proposed a land exchange with the Social Welfare Department due to its existing auditorium. The area is also expected to gain a railway station, pending cabinet approval, further boosting accessibility to this visionary landmark.
