After a quiet spell, the southwest monsoon made a comeback in Bengaluru with a burst of heavy rain late Monday evening. Several areas in the city, particularly in the East Zone and Yelahanka, witnessed intense rainfall for a short duration, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC).
While South and West Bengaluru remained largely dry, the sudden showers in the East led to waterlogging on Kamaraj Road and low-lying stretches in KR Puram and along the Kasturi Nagar down-ramp. Fortunately, no major traffic snarls were reported.
A senior traffic police official confirmed that while some roads saw mild flooding, there were no significant disruptions, even in North Bengaluru. Cloudy skies and steady winds persisted through the day, adding to the typical monsoon atmosphere.
Rainfall measurements recorded were modest despite the intensity: the India Meteorological Department (IMD) observatory at Bengaluru city logged 1.9 mm between 8:30 am and 8:30 pm, while the HAL airport station and the Bengaluru Urban automatic weather station each recorded 2 mm.
Looking ahead, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds for the next four days in the city. Residents are advised to stay alert, especially during evening hours when brief but intense rain may lead to slippery roads and water accumulation in some areas.
