A spotted deer tragically died after being struck by a car while crossing Doddaballapur main road near Rajanukunte around 10:30 pm on Thursday.

Police said the accident happened in front of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) facility. The vehicle, carrying a family of seven returning to Jeevan Bima Nagar from Sri Ghati Subramanya temple, collided with the animal as it attempted to leap across the road.

The driver, Prabhakar, reported driving at 50–60 kmph when the impact shattered the bonnet and forced part of it into the windshield, bringing the car to a sudden stop.

According to eyewitness accounts, a two-wheeler rider had stopped moments earlier and tried to chase the deer away, inadvertently driving it towards the approaching sedan.

Varun Kumar, Range Forest Officer from Devanahalli, noted that surrounding forest areas such as Jharakbande Kaval and Gunjur Palya are quite distant. He suggested the deer likely wandered from the Hesaraghatta region, although forest staff had no prior sightings nearby.

N Ravindra Kumar, Deputy Conservator of Forests for Bengaluru Urban, confirmed a case has been filed under the Wildlife Protection Act. The vehicle involved was seized, though the driver was granted bail.

Officials identified the animal as a four to five-year-old male. A post-mortem report is awaited to determine further legal steps.
