A three-and-a-half-year-old girl suffered severe injuries after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in north Bengaluru’s Sahakarnagar, triggering fresh concerns over the growing menace of stray animals in residential neighbourhoods.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the child was playing on a street near her residence.
CCTV captures frightening attack
According to local residents, the girl, who is the daughter of a migrant worker, was playing outside at around 4 pm when a group of stray dogs suddenly surrounded her.
CCTV footage of the incident shows at least three dogs pouncing on the child before several other dogs from the pack joined the attack.
The toddler was unable to defend herself as the dogs dragged and bit her repeatedly, causing deep injuries.
The disturbing footage has since circulated widely, drawing attention to the risks posed by aggressive stray dog packs in urban areas.
Woman rushes to child’s rescue
The attack was halted after a woman standing nearby noticed the commotion and rushed towards the child.
Her quick intervention frightened the dogs and forced them to retreat, preventing what could have been an even more serious tragedy.
Residents said the child was immediately taken for medical treatment and is recovering from multiple bite wounds.
Residents demand action
The incident has renewed calls for stronger measures to address stray dog-related incidents in Bengaluru.
Residents of the area expressed concern over the presence of large packs of stray dogs and urged civic authorities to take immediate steps to ensure public safety, especially for children.
Animal birth control measures, vaccination drives and monitoring of aggressive stray dogs have once again come under discussion following the attack.
Authorities are expected to review the incident and take appropriate action based on local complaints
