A two-day exhibition titled “Sweat and Concrete 2025” will take place on May 29 and 30 at Sabha Blr on Kamaraj Road. Organised by Purpose, a strategy consultancy and movement incubator, the exhibition is part of the People First Cities initiative. The event aims to raise awareness about the growing danger of heat stress caused by escalating global temperatures, particularly its impact on vulnerable urban communities.
The highlight of the show is the Neralu Heat Shelter, a collapsible, modular refuge designed for informal sector workers exposed to extreme heat. Created by architects Sagar Kandal and Ankritya Diggavi, the shelter was the winning design in a contest by the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment. The functional prototype will be installed in the venue’s courtyard and is intended to spark collaborative interest from both public institutions and private entities for wider deployment.
The organisers stress that heat stress solutions must be tailored to each city’s unique conditions. The event will also feature an audio-visual mixed media exhibition, a theatre and performance art piece, and a panel discussion. This dialogue will include policymakers, climate scientists, and informal workers, creating a platform for stories, strategies, and scalable interventions.
Officials from the BBMP, including special commissioner Preeti Gehlot, have been invited. Entry is free. More information is available at sabhablr.in/events.
