Bengaluru: Swiggy Instamart has introduced a “Shopping List” feature to streamline the online grocery experience, after receiving feedback from a user on X (formerly Twitter). The new feature allows users to quickly build their carts by speaking, scanning, or typing their grocery lists, an addition that promises to save time and make the process more intuitive.

The suggestion was raised by X user ‘Gabbar Singh,’ who highlighted how the traditional Indian practice of shopping with pre-made lists could simplify online shopping. The user’s post caught attention, noting, “It’s very difficult to search, pick the quantity and add to cart items one by one on your platforms. Pls give a functionality to upload a list. And it makes the cart for me. Thanks.”
Swiggy co-founder Phani Kishan acknowledged the feedback, replying, “Well, we heard you.” The new feature is currently in a pilot phase and will gradually be made available to all users. Kishan also shared a short demo showing the feature in action.

How it Works: The Shopping List feature offers three ways for users to create their cart:
- “Say it”: Users can verbally list items, such as “milk, apples, bread,” allowing the app to automatically populate the cart.
- “Write it”: Typed lists can be pasted directly from platforms like WhatsApp or Notes.
- “Scan it”: Scanned handwritten lists are converted into a searchable format for easier selection.
The feature is expected to make online shopping more accessible for all, including parents and family members who might find digital interfaces challenging. With the addition of Siri compatibility, users can even instruct Siri to add items verbally.
The response to the new feature has been positive, with users appreciating the thoughtful design that aligns with Indian shopping habits.
