A Bengaluru-based techie took to Reddit to express his disappointment over a misleading job interview experience with IBM. The candidate, currently earning a CTC of Rs 16 LPA, was contacted by a recruiter for a mid-senior Application Developer role, with an assurance that his salary expectations would be considered. He made it clear that his minimum expectation was Rs 24 LPA, but the recruiter responded with a budget of up to Rs 22 LPA, hinting that Rs 23 LPA might be possible if he performed well in the interview.

After successfully clearing three technical rounds, with the interviewers providing positive feedback, the techie was asked to visit the IBM office for biometric registration. However, things soon took an unexpected turn. Despite the recruiter’s earlier promises, the techie was told that his salary expectations were too high and that the final offer would be Rs 17.8 LPA, along with a Rs 1 lakh joining bonus—far below what had been initially discussed.

Feeling misled, the techie confronted the recruiter, who had previously assured him that the salary would be considered based on his expectations. He vented his frustration on Reddit, accusing IBM of wasting his time and making false promises. He also noted that while he was willing to compromise for the sake of joining a reputed company like IBM, the significant reduction in the offer was highly unprofessional.
