A Class 8 student’s gaming habit has left his family facing financial hardship after he reportedly spent more than ₹42,000 on Roblox‘s virtual currency using his father’s phone without permission.

The incident came to light through a viral Reddit post titled “Brother just spent 42k on Roblox without consent” on the r/RobloxSupport community, where the boy’s elder brother sought advice on recovering the money.

Student spent ₹42,647 on Robux

According to the Reddit post, the student had borrowed his father’s phone, claiming he needed it for studying. Instead, he logged into Roblox and made multiple purchases of Robux, the game’s in-game currency.

The post revealed that the boy spent a total of ₹42,647 through several transactions, most of them valued at around ₹2,000 each. A screenshot of the transaction history shared online showed the repeated purchases.

Despite the substantial expenditure, the account reportedly had only around 100 Robux remaining.

Family says finances badly affected

The boy’s brother said the unexpected expense had placed the family under severe financial strain. According to the post, the father was struggling to repay a loan, while the loss of money had also affected the family’s ability to meet educational expenses.

Seeking help, the family turned to the Reddit community to find out whether the payments could be reversed and the money recovered.

Internet users suggest possible solutions

The post attracted numerous responses from Reddit users, many of whom advised the family to immediately contact their bank and request chargebacks for the unauthorised transactions. However, several users warned that such action could result in the Roblox account being permanently banned.

Others recommended contacting Roblox Support directly or requesting a refund through the Google Play Store if the purchases qualified under the platform’s refund policy.

Many users described the incident as an expensive lesson on digital responsibility and parental supervision, saying that while recovering the money would be important, the incident also highlighted the need to restrict in-app purchases and monitor children’s access to online gaming platforms
