Two people, including a teenage student, were killed in separate road accidents in Bengaluru on Tuesday, highlighting continuing concerns over speeding and road safety in the city.

The victims were identified as Lawrence, a 16-year-old second-year PU student from KR Puram, and Venkatesh, a 62-year-old pedestrian.

Student dies after crashing into flyover barrier

In the first incident, Lawrence was killed after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the barrier of the Outer Ring Road flyover at Kasturinagar.

According to traffic police, the teenager had reportedly taken his brother’s motorcycle early in the morning while other family members were asleep. Investigators said he was riding at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the flyover parapet.

The impact left him with grievous injuries. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Lawrence was studying at a private college in Bengaluru. A case has been registered at the Mahadevapura Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

Pedestrian fatally hit on CMH Road

In a separate incident on CMH Road, 62-year-old Venkatesh lost his life after being struck by a speeding motorcycle while crossing the road near a metro pillar.

Police said the motorcycle hit the pedestrian with considerable force, causing severe head injuries. Venkatesh was admitted to NIMHANS for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

The rider of the motorcycle has been arrested and the vehicle seized for further investigation.

Police cite speeding as likely cause

Traffic police officials said preliminary investigations indicate that speeding may have played a role in both accidents. A case has been registered at the JB Nagar Traffic Police Station in connection with the CMH Road incident.

The accidents have once again drawn attention to the need for responsible driving and greater adherence to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies on Bengaluru’s roads.
