Thanisandra Main Road, which was concretized only four years ago, is already being dug up at multiple spots, causing frustration among residents. The BBMP had promised that the road wouldn’t need digging for 15-20 years, but that commitment has been broken. Heavy machinery works at night, covering up the dug areas by morning with mud and gravel, leaving residents to deal with the ongoing inconvenience.
The most noticeable disruption is opposite Sobha City apartments, where heavy pipelines are being laid along the footpath. At other spots, concrete layers have been removed, replaced with uneven mixtures of mud, gravel, and cement, causing safety hazards. Over the past two years, several junctions between Hegde Nagar and Chokkanahalli have been dug up to lay pipes and wires, leaving poor repairs that create dangerous conditions, especially for two-wheelers.
An especially concerning area near the Bharat Petroleum bunk has seen concrete patches replaced with fresh layers that are lower than the rest of the road, resulting in frequent accidents. Locals report daily accidents due to the uneven surface, with one vendor noting that at least five people fall each day.
Despite BBMP’s assurances, the lack of accountability and the continuous digging have left both residents and business owners frustrated. BBMP officials explain that the road is being dug up by BWSSB to repair an old water pipeline under the road, which was overlooked during the initial project.
