A heartbreaking accident unfolded in Bengaluru as two people, including a 12-year-old boy, were electrocuted while trying to clear floodwater from an apartment, police reported on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at Madhuvan Apartment in NS Palya near BTM 2nd Stage. Manmohan Kamath (63) attempted to drain rainwater from his home using a motorised pump. When he plugged the pump into a socket, a short circuit occurred, resulting in fatal electrocution, said an officer from Mico Layout Police Station.

Dinesh (12), the son of a Nepalese worker employed at the apartment complex, was standing nearby and also suffered a fatal shock during the incident. Both victims were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Authorities have stated that Unnatural Death Reports (UDRs) will be filed for both cases.

These deaths bring the toll from pre-monsoon rains in Bengaluru to three. Earlier the same day, Sasikala (35) lost her life when a compound wall collapsed on her while she was cleaning the premises of a company in Mahadevapura.

The recent tragedies underscore the dire consequences of poor urban infrastructure and inadequate safety measures during heavy rains.
