A traffic police constable was allegedly assaulted by two men after he stopped a motorcycle for triple riding and rash driving in Bengaluru’s Jnanabharathi area.
The incident occurred on Monday while Lakshman Nayak, 30, a constable attached to the Jnanabharathi Traffic Police Station, was on traffic duty near a signal junction.
Constable attacked during vehicle check
According to police, Nayak noticed a motorcycle carrying three persons and being ridden in a rash and negligent manner. He signalled the rider to stop the vehicle for violating traffic rules.
However, instead of cooperating, two of the occupants allegedly began abusing the constable. The situation soon escalated, and the duo reportedly assaulted him and pulled his uniform while he was performing his official duties.
The incident created a brief commotion in the area before police intervened.
Two accused arrested
Based on Nayak’s complaint, the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police registered a case against the accused, identified as Mubharaka and Shahid.
Police have booked the duo for assaulting a public servant and obstructing a government official from discharging his duties. Both accused were subsequently arrested.
Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has once again highlighted the challenges faced by traffic police personnel while enforcing road safety regulations and maintaining order on Bengaluru’s busy roads.
