In a strategic move to decongest Bengaluru and promote regional development, Tumakuru district—just 60 km from the tech capital—is actively encouraging IT and ITeS companies to relocate or establish satellite offices in the city. The Tumakuru administration has begun collecting data on tech professionals who commute daily between Tumakuru and Bengaluru. A social media campaign launched on Monday quickly drew responses from techies employed across 150 different IT firms in Bengaluru.

Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner Subha Kalyan noted that over 5,000 tech professionals make this daily commute, a number expected to be even higher. “This data will help us approach companies directly and offer them viable relocation options,” she said. The initiative has been discussed with top officials including IT secretary Ekroop Caur and Karnataka Digital Economy Mission CEO Sanjeev Gupta, both of whom have assessed the city’s infrastructure potential.

Tumakuru boasts key advantages: better connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport via hinterland routes, and plug-and-play office spaces ready for immediate occupancy in the city center. The industrial township at Vasanthanarasapura, now completing phases 4 through 6, offers dedicated zones for IT firms.

Beyond infrastructure, the city offers significant cost savings on rentals, transport, and operational expenses—an attractive proposition for tech firms facing Bengaluru’s saturation and rising costs. Companies interested in shifting operations are encouraged to reach out directly to the district administration.
