Bengaluru: The Hanumantanagar police have arrested two individuals, Ravi alias Praveen alias Kariya (27) from Mysore, and Arun (19) from Mandya,for breaking into houses and stealing valuables for entertainment purposes. The duo was found with stolen gold jewellery weighing 478 grams and cash amounting to ₹31 lakh.

The arrests were made following a complaint by a resident of Srinagar, who reported that a gold chain had been stolen from their home. The police apprehended the suspects near a bus stand, where they confessed to the theft during interrogation.

Further investigation revealed that the accused had committed similar crimes, breaking into houses under the jurisdiction of various police stations in Mandya and Mysore. The stolen goods were pawned in finance and jewellery shops, and the proceeds were spent on entertainment, alcohol, and trips.

The police have managed to recover the stolen gold ornaments that had been pawned in Mysore and Mandya. The suspects’ actions, reportedly motivated by the thrill of committing theft, point to a concerning rise in recreational crimes.
