Bengaluru: Govindapura police have arrested two suspects in connection with a house robbery case and recovered stolen property worth about ₹7.44 lakh, including gold ornaments, cash, mobile phones and a scooter allegedly used for the offence. One more accused person is still absconding and efforts are under way to trace him.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Shabaz Khan, 24, a resident of DJ Halli, and Suraj A, 40, from T Dasarahalli. Both were taken into custody following an investigation based on the victim’s complaint and technical evidence, police said.

Robbery took place when victim was at work

According to the complaint filed with Govindapura police, the robbery occurred on January 27 when the house owner was away at work. His wife was alone at home at the time of the incident.

Police said three suspects allegedly entered the house, threatened and assaulted the woman, and then carried out the robbery. The accused reportedly searched the premises and took away gold ornaments and a large amount of cash before fleeing the scene.

The woman later alerted her husband and neighbours, after which a police complaint was lodged and a case registered.

Gold and cash looted from house

In his complaint, the victim stated that the suspects robbed about 48.06 grams of gold ornaments and ₹4 lakh in cash from the house. The stolen items included jewellery kept for personal and family use.

Following the registration of the case, a special team was formed to track down the accused. Investigators collected local intelligence, checked CCTV footage from nearby streets and analysed mobile phone data to identify possible suspects.

Police said the breakthrough came after tracking movement patterns and linking vehicle details seen near the crime spot.

Property worth ₹7.44 lakh recovered

During the course of the operation, police arrested the two accused and recovered part of the stolen property from their possession. The seized items include 15.2 grams of gold ornaments and ₹2.73 lakh in cash.

In addition, two mobile phones believed to have been used during the planning or execution of the offence were recovered. A scooter allegedly used by the accused for transport before and after the robbery was also seized.

The total value of recovered property has been estimated at around ₹7.44 lakh based on current valuation, police sources said.

One accused still absconding

Police confirmed that a third suspect involved in the case is still at large. Teams have been deployed to trace and arrest him. Raids are being conducted at known associate locations and possible hideouts.

Investigators are also examining whether the trio was involved in other similar house robbery cases in the surrounding areas. The background and prior records of the arrested men are being verified.

Officials said custodial questioning of the two arrested suspects is continuing to gather more details about planning, disposal of stolen items and the role of each accused.

Focus on daytime house robberies

Police officials noted that robberies targeting houses when one family member is alone have been a matter of concern. In several such cases, accused persons conduct prior surveillance to understand work timings and occupancy patterns.

Residents have been advised to install door cameras, ensure secure locking systems and maintain contact with neighbours during daytime hours. Quick reporting of suspicious movement in residential areas can help prevent such crimes, police said.

Community awareness and timely complaint registration are also seen as key factors in speeding up investigation and recovery.

Investigation continues

A formal case has been registered under relevant sections relating to house trespass, assault and robbery. The arrested suspects will be produced before a court and further legal action will follow as per procedure.

Police said recovery efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining stolen gold and cash and to secure the arrest of the absconding accused. Further disclosures are expected as the investigation progresses.

Conclusion

With two arrests and significant recovery already made, police say the case has seen major progress, but the operation will continue until the third suspect is caught and the full stolen property is traced. Authorities have reiterated their appeal for public vigilance and prompt reporting in similar situations.
