Bengaluru: In a tragic series of road accidents on Sunday, two youths lost their lives and two others sustained serious injuries in incidents reported from Nandini Layout, Doddaballapura and Kogilu Main Road. Police have registered separate cases and launched investigations against the truck drivers involved.

Security guard crushed by truck near Nandini Layout

The first accident took place around 1.15 am near Krishnanandanagar junction, close to Nandini Layout.

According to police, Sanjiv Kumar, 22, a native of Bihar and resident of Yeshwanthpur, had just completed his night duty as a security guard at the BEL factory in Peenya and booked a bike taxi to return home. The rider, Vijay Kumar, 30, picked him up on his scooter.

A speeding truck rammed into the scooter from behind. Vijay was flung to one side and survived with injuries, but Sanjiv was thrown onto the road and came under the truck’s rear wheels. He was partially crushed and died on the spot.

The Rajajinagar traffic police have registered a case against the truck driver.

Hotel worker killed on Doddaballapura Main Road

In another incident, Bikku Kumar, 18, a hotel worker from Doddaballapura, was killed around 4.30 am near Bashettihalli village.

Police said Bikku was heading towards Yelahanka on his moped when a loaded truck travelling towards Doddaballapura lost control. The truck crossed the divider, veered into the opposite lane, and rammed into his two-wheeler.

The vehicle dragged both the moped and the rider beneath its wheels before halting after mounting a footpath and crashing into a mound of mud. The truck narrowly missed hitting a commercial complex.

Police had to dig through the mud to recover Bikku’s body. The Doddaballapura Rural police have seized the truck and booked the driver for rash and negligent driving.

Teen cyclist injured in Kogilu Main Road accident

Later in the afternoon, a third accident was reported around 12.30 pm on Kogilu Main Road near Korlappa Complex.

Vijay B S, 18, a resident of Maruthinagar, was riding his bicycle when a tipper truck carrying mud struck him. The impact threw him to the ground, and the truck’s front wheel ran over his arm, abdomen and legs.

Bystanders rushed to rescue Vijay and shifted him to a private hospital in Yelahanka. Police identified the driver as Mudeena Miya. Following a complaint by Vijay’s father, Sathyanarayana, a case has been filed. A medical test confirmed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.

Vijay, who had recently completed his SSLC, was preparing for higher studies.

Investigations underway

All three accidents are being investigated by respective traffic police stations. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise greater caution, particularly during early morning hours when heavy vehicle movement is high on city outskirts.
