Bengaluru: Two young women from Nepal were found hanging from a tree in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka area in the early hours of Wednesday, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The deceased have been identified as Sirijana (24), daughter of Johare, and Rita (24), daughter of Kamal Singh, both natives of Nepal.
According to preliminary information, the women had arrived in Bengaluru about a month ago and were staying at the residence of Sirijana’s brother in Yelahanka.
Bodies found on Jakkur Road
The incident came to light in the early hours of Wednesday when the two women were found hanging from a tree opposite Kisar Hotel in Shivanahalli on Jakkur Road, within the jurisdiction of the Yelahanka Police Station.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and carried out a preliminary inspection before shifting the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Police investigating cause of deaths
Officials said the exact reason behind the suspected suicides is yet to be determined.
A case has been registered, and investigators are examining all possible angles to establish the circumstances that led to the deaths.
Police are also expected to question family members and gather additional evidence as part of the investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed whether any suicide note was recovered from the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
