Bengaluru: Rider hit by speeding vehicle while overtaking halted BMTC bus

A 43-year-old two-wheeler rider died on Wednesday in an accident near Thimmanahalli bridge in Doddabasti, under KR Puram traffic police limits. The deceased, identified as Manikantan, attempted to enter the main road while overtaking a halted BMTC bus.

At the same time, a speeding Tata Ace collided with the two-wheeler, trapping both the rider and the pillion between the vehicles. The pillion rider sustained leg injuries and was admitted to a nearby private hospital. The accident caused damage to the rear of the bus and the front of the Tata Ace.

BMTC responds to social media criticism

Following the incident, BMTC issued a statement urging the public not to brand it as a “Killer BMTC”. The corporation said:

“There is a false image that is being spread about the BMTC across the media. We have taken into account every accident where the BMTC was involved in recent times, and it proves how the image is a false one.”

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the accident and are investigating whether speed or road conditions contributed.

Conclusion

The accident highlights road safety risks in Bengaluru’s residential areas, especially near bus stops. Citizens are urged to exercise caution while overtaking and driving in congested areas.
