Indian Railways is preparing to launch a direct Vande Bharat Express between Mumbai and Mangaluru, slashing travel time to just 12 hours. By merging the Mumbai-Goa and Mangaluru-Goa routes, the initiative aims to maximize efficiency and attract more passengers.
Currently, the Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat operates at 70% occupancy, down from its earlier 90% usage, while the Mangaluru-Goa service struggles below 40%. Given that trains between Mumbai, Mangaluru, and Kerala often run at full capacity, officials anticipate a significant surge in demand for this streamlined route.
New Timetable and Operational Challenges
As per the proposed schedule, the Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat, which leaves at 5:25 am and reaches Goa at 1:10 pm, will continue its journey to Mangaluru, arriving by 6 pm. Similarly, the Mangaluru-Goa service, departing at 8:30 am, will be extended to Mumbai, with an expected arrival at 9 pm.
However, platform congestion in Mumbai during peak hours presents a scheduling obstacle. To tackle this issue, railway planners are evaluating adjustments to ensure smooth operations.
Once implemented, this direct Mumbai-Mangaluru Vande Bharat service will boost connectivity, improve efficiency, and provide a faster, more convenient travel option.
