NEW DELHI – Vodafone Idea (Vi) has officially launched its 5G services in the national capital on May 15, 2025, marking another key milestone in its phased rollout across India. Delhi joins Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Patna as part of Vi’s early launch cities, with Bengaluru and Mysuru next in line.

Vi plans to cover all 17 priority circles where it holds 5G spectrum rights by August 2025. Backed by a ₹55,000 crore capex, the full rollout is expected to span three years.

In Delhi NCR, Vi has teamed up with Ericsson to build a next-gen 5G infrastructure boasting improved energy efficiency and compact hardware. The operator is using 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) architecture with AI-powered Self-Organising Network (SON) tech to enhance coverage and performance.

During recent testing, users in Delhi reported download speeds between 75 Mbps and 170 Mbps, varying by location. In Mumbai, over 70% of eligible users are already using Vi 5G, with 20% of data traffic flowing through the network.

In a strategic move, Vi launched 5G across 11 cricket stadiums during the IPL season, offering fans high-speed connectivity at the venues.
