A woman recently took to Reddit to share her troubling experience with the Bengaluru Police, alleging harassment of her boyfriend during a night walk. The couple was stopped by a police officer around 10 PM, who accused them of “behaving inappropriately” in public. The officer threatened to inform their parents and initially demanded they visit the police station.
The woman was eventually released, but her boyfriend was detained. She recounted, “He started threatening us and asked us to go to the police station. Despite our pleas, he didn’t let us go. Finally, he let me go because I was a girl and it was almost 10 PM. He held onto my boyfriend.” As she walked home, a man on a two-wheeler made inappropriate remarks towards her, which the police officer ignored.
Adding to her distress, the officer allegedly took a bribe from her boyfriend before releasing him. She wrote on Reddit, “Hypocrisy! Teasing a woman is fine but a woman holding her boyfriend’s hand with her consent is NOT OKAY! Later they took money from my boyfriend and let him go.”
The post has garnered over 3,000 upvotes, with many users expressing outrage and sharing similar experiences. One user advised her to share the incident on Twitter and tag the Bengaluru Police Commissioner. Another commented, “Really sad you had to go through this. The same thing happened to me and my wife.” Another user remarked, “Indian police corruption is on the next level.”
