A 45-year-old woman who had been battling for life after being stabbed by her nephew and his associates has died, prompting police to convert the case from attempt to murder to murder.

The deceased has been identified as Mageshwari.

Family dispute turned violent

According to Adugodi Police, the incident arose from a domestic conflict involving Mageshwari’s niece Charulata and her husband.

Police said Charulata had returned to her parental home after marital problems and was staying with family members.

Her husband Manikiran allegedly made repeated attempts to convince her to return, but she refused.

Attack inside house

Investigators said Manikiran later arrived at the house along with his father Manivannan and associates Maniraj alias Stephan and Abhishek.

When Mageshwari intervened, the group allegedly assaulted her with an iron rod and stabbed her multiple times on the thigh before taking Charulata away.

Succumbed during treatment

The victim was first admitted to St John’s Hospital and later shifted to Victoria Hospital before being moved again due to financial difficulties.

Her condition worsened over the following days, and she died around 3 am on Sunday.

Murder case now registered

Police said all four accused, who reportedly work as labourers, are lodged in Central Prison Parappana Agrahara.

With the victim’s death, the case has now been upgraded to murder.
